Two-fer Tuesday: Kitchen Tips

Two quickie kitchen tips this week:

daffodil 1Chill Out
Toss a handful of ice cubes in your disposal every few weeks, then turn it on and run cold water for a few minutes. The ice breaks up the grease that collects on the rotors. While you’re are it, you could also add some orange, lemon and/or lime peels to freshen the smell.

daffodil 2Grease Be Gone
Did you know that you can get baked-on foods off dishes and pans with a dryer sheet? Fill the offending pot or dish with water, drop in a dryer sheet, and and let it sit overnight,. You should be able to sponge it clean the next morning.

Supposedly, this works because the antistatic stuff in the dryer sheet breaks the bond between the food and the surface of the dish, and the softener part loosens it further. I’m not a scientist, so I have no idea if that’s true, but I do know it worked the one time I tried it.
